Gotta love a good "trashy" vintage Halloween card!

What's not to love about Halloween?  It's really just a big party with lots of fake blood, pumpkin guts and sugar.  Bring it!

CRAFTING

If your are feeling crafty and/or want some great on-the-cheap recycled Halloween decorations, try these votives!  Super fun for kids.  We made these on a playdate last year.  For materials and directions, check out skiptomylou.

TREATS and LIBATIONS

These little OREO-ish darlings made by Butter on Dunbar in Vancouver are perfect for Halloween parties.  Just add orange or green food colouring to the icing to ghoul it up a bit.  Thanks to the Vancouver Sun, you can make these layers of deliciousness yourself with this recipe.

VALENTINE'S DAY GREETINGS

Vintage Valentine - 1909

There is a lovely history behind Valentine's Day beyond what poopy-pant anti-Valentine people say (and you know who you are:).  It's not just a "manufactured" holiday, but rather an annual ritual that began in the middle ages and really got it's legs in the Victorian Era - that's when those gorgeous and elaborate (and confining) dresses had their heyday.
Valentine's day was named after St. Valentine (270 A.D.) - the Catholic patron saint of love.  He was a Roman priest who was locked up for defiance and legend says that he wrote a farewell note to his lady in waiting and signed it "from your valentine."
And there you have it - the start of a "holiday" that would forever be marked on our calendars.
With the busy lives that we all lead it would be nice to take the time to send a dear friend, a grandmother, a spouse or a child a little Valentine to let them know that you are thinking of them.
